HOLDEN – Ronald Robinson English, 78, of Holden, died on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 after a courageous struggle with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP).
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jane (Krebs) English; three daughters, Sandra Jane Meindersma and her husband Jonathan of West Boylston, Catherine Cardoso and her husband John-Paul of Hudson and Meredith Monaghan and her husband Peter of Concord; five grandchildren, Andrew, Jill, Elena, Lorelei and Brandon; a sister, Eleanor Fillebrown and her husband Stephen of Hancock, NH; and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Fred "Buddy" English predeceased him. He was born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of Fred C. and Cora B. (Jewett) English and had lived in Holden since 1965.
Ron graduated from Amesbury High School in 1951 and was a proud graduate of Bowdoin College in Maine, where he was a member of the Psi Upsilon fraternity. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served during the Korean Conflict. For more than 20 years Ron worked as a C.P.A. for Norton Co. in Worcester. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holden and the Greendale Retired Men's Club in Worcester. He was a lifelong athlete who enjoyed volleyball, golf, skiing and softball, and had been a member of the Wachusett Old Time Skiers Club.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, January 22nd, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The memorial service for Ron will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 23rd at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 346 Shrewsbury Street, Holden, 01520. Burial will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund; or to CurePSP, 30 E. Padonia Road, Suite 201, Timonium, MD 21093.
