HOLDEN – Roberta D. (Donaldson) Knox, 85, of 21 Arizona Avenue, died Thursday, April 22, 2004, in Oakdale Nursing Home, after an illness.
She leaves her husband of 57 years, Howard T. Knox; two sons, Donald H. Knox of Carver and Arthur Randall Knox of Northampton; and four grandchildren. She was born in Clifton, Arizona, the daughter of Kenneth H. and Lillian H. (Hughes) Donaldson, and lived in Holden for 52 years. Mrs. Knox graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in English.
She worked in the English Department at Wachusett Regional High School during the 1960s. She was a member of the First Unitarian Church in Worcester and was an active volunteer with their lunch program; and she was also a member of the Worcester Horticultural Society. During World War II she worked for the U.S.O. She enjoyed gardening and traveling to Europe to visit gardens and art museums. Mrs. Knox was an accomplished amateur photographer and occasionally gave slide presentations about formal gardens in Europe.
A memorial service for Mrs. Knox will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 27, in the First Unitarian Church, 90 Main Street, Worcester. Burial will be private in Grove Cemetery, Holden. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, is directing arrangements.
