STERLING – Robert T. Rooney, Jr., 55, of 28 Wilder Road, died peacefully at home in the presence of his loving family, on Sunday, July 17, 2005.
He leaves his wife of 31 years, Elaine M. (Fife) Rooney; two sons, Timothy M. Rooney of Sterling and Kevin J. Rooney of Portland, Oregon; a daughter, Katelyn F. Rooney of Sterling; two sisters, Carolyn Hroszowy of Douglas and Kathleen Lonzo of Falmouth; nieces; a nephew; and several cousins. He was born in Worcester the son of Robert T. and Bernadette (Adamiak) Rooney and lived many years in Shrewsbury and 29 years in Sterling. He enjoyed vacationing with his family in Harwichport.
Mr. Rooney graduated from Shrewsbury High School and Worcester State College. He was an independent distributor of orthopedic implants in the New England area for 23 years. He was a member of St. Richard of Chichester Church in Sterling. He was a founding member of Sterling Country Club and coached in the Sterling Senior Babe Ruth Baseball League and the Tom Ash Senior Ruth Baseball League in Worcester. He was an avid sports fan and played in the “Over 39” Softball League in Sterling.
The funeral for Mr. Rooney will be held on Friday, July 22, from the Miles–Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge Street, Sterling. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Clinton Road (Rte. 62), Sterling. Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, in the funeral home.
