HOLDEN - Robert F. Shack of Holden, 75, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Compass in Hopkinton. He was born on October 8, 1938 in Boston to Thomas and Florence Keogh Shack.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, June Miller Shack; his sons, Chris and Rob; his granddaughters, Sydney and Paige Shack; his daughter-in-law, Rachel Nevins; his siblings, Thomas Shack, Jr. of Brookline, Richard Shack of Roswell GA and Maryanne Gambini of Douglasville, GA; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and his best friend, Bill Markey. He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Marion; his sister-in-law, Lynne Shack; his brother-in-law, Edward Miller; and aunts and uncles.
He grew up in Belmont and lived in Holden for the 43 years. He owned and operated several Worcester based companies (Search Group, Temp Resources and New Era Staffing) helping find jobs for local people from 1968-2006, and a franchise of Boston Chicken in West Hartford, CT. When called, he was more than willing to help his community, participating on the Holden Light Department Board and was part of the building of the present facility on Holden Street. Robert was chairman of the committee that brought the first night lighting to sporting events at the Wachusett Regional High School athletic fields.
He enjoyed golfing, boating and especially being on Cape Cod in Centerville, where he had planned to retire.
Calling hours will be on Saturday, June 7th at 11 am, with a prayer service and time of sharing memories following at 12 noon at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden.
