HOLDEN – Robert Gilbert Pearson, 84, died on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at UMass Memorial Healthcare, University Campus. Robert was born in Holden on February 3, 1930 the son of Axel F. and Sophie A. (Bengtson) Pearson and was a life-long Holden resident.
He is survived by his loving wife, of 57 years, Patricia (Nixon) Pearson; his two sons, Robert J. Pearson and his wife Suzanne of Ledyard, CT and Richard A. Pearson of Holden; 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers and two sisters
Robert attended Worcester Boy’s Trade School and went on to work with his father as a stone mason for several years. He began his career at Heald Machine Company in Worcester in the early 1950’s working as a sheet metal mechanic. He left the Company in 1988 after 38 years of service and went on to work for several other companies in the Worcester area including Off Sight Services Co. and Service Network Co. Robert was a Master Mason and was active in the Rufus Putnam Lodge of Masons for many years. He loved travelling with his family and the great outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed camping. Robert had a passion for woodcarving and was active with the Caricature Carvers of Central Mass and taught the trade at the West Boylston Senior Center.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2014 at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 15 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Please omit flowers.
