WEST BOYLSTON/PAXTON – Robert T. Nanof, 83, of West Boylston, passed away with his loving family by his side on Sunday morning, December 20, 2015 at UMass Memorial Healthcare in Worcester. Born in Holden and raised in Worcester, Bob was the son of Victor S. and Artemis (Van) Nanof and lived 50 years in Paxton moving to West Boylston in 2007. Bob graduated from Commerce High School and attended Worcester Junior College. He was a Korean War veteran and honorably served his country with the U.S. Army 17th Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division and later the Army Reserves until 1962. In 1955, Bob married the love of his life, Elizabeth A. Shaughnessy, and together they moved to Paxton where they raised their three children. He worked for over 30 years at Mine Safety Appliance Co. in Pittsburgh, retiring as a senior sales representative. He was a member of the Paxton American Legion Post 306, Mass. Industrial Hygiene Association, Massachusetts Firefighter’s Instructor Association, New England Fire Chief’s Association, an associate member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, and served as a Corporator at Barre Savings Bank. Bob took great interest in both his children and grandchildren’s many activities. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting and fishing, and his grandchildren's sport events. His wife of 55 years passed in 2010. He leaves three sons, Robert J. Nanof of West Boylston, James S. Nanof and his wife, Gail (Marhefka) of Lancaster, and Thomas P. Nanof and his wife, Kimberly (Flatt) of Belgrade, Maine; two grandchildren, Beth Ann Nanof of Lancaster and her fiance, Casey Ruggiero of Stow, and Christopher J. Nanof of Clinton; two brothers, Peter Nanof and his wife, Shirley of Marlborough and Theodore R. Nanof and his wife, Jean of Prescott Harbor, Maine; nephews, nieces, and cousins. He is also predeceased by three brothers, John, Victor and Philip Nanof, and two sisters, Helen C. Collaro and Violet M. Lux. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bob’s family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 23, at St. Columba Church, 18 Richards Avenue, Paxton, followed by interment at Mooreland Cemetery, 251 Richards Avenue, Paxton.
