HOLDEN - Robert C. Murray, Jr., a passionate family man known for his dry sense of humor, peacefully passed away at the age of 60 in the comfort of his home on Saturday, December 16, surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Akron, Ohio, Bob was the beloved son of Robert C. and Audrey (Peterson) Murray and had made Holden his home for the past 29 years.
A proud graduate of Garfield High School in Akron, class of 1982, Bob pursued higher education at The Ohio State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in economics. Later, he attended Worcester State University, obtaining a second bachelor's degree in computer science. Throughout his career, Bob worked as a software developer for Cadkey Software Co., Fallon Healthcare in Worcester, among others in the area, and retired from Glance Networks in Wakefield.
Bob's love story with MaryLynn Saul began during his volunteer work with Amnesty International in Columbus, Ohio, where they both passionately fought for human rights. They joined in marriage on a Maui beach on March 18, 1994, surrounded by the beauty of a sunset.
An avid supporter of Ohio State University football, Bob later added English football to his passion, supporting the Crystal Palace Soccer Club in England. Bob's musical tastes varied with his moods, appreciating jazz as well as the Pogues and Bob Dylan.
Along with great love for his family, Bob was an active supportor of Hadwen Park Congregational Church in Worcester, and its mission, the LGBT Asylum Task Force. This task force is committed to supporting and empowering LGBTQ+ individuals seeking asylum in the U.S. Bob's legacy of compassion, love, and activism will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Bob is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his devoted wife, MaryLynn Saul, his daughters Kat Lawrence and her wife, Hailey Kenyon of Bristol, England, Fiona Murray and her husband, Thomas Abdelmalak of Queens, NY, his mother Audrey Cirino of Akron, OH, and his sister, Taunya Bush of Akron, OH. He also leaves behind aunts, uncles, cousins, and a wide circle of friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bob's family from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Saturday, January 6th, at Hadwen Park Congregational Church, 6 Clover St., Worcester, with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 am.
