MILLBURY – Robert William Mansfield, Sr., 85, of Millbury, passed away at home under the loving care of his family on Friday, October 25, 2013. Born and raised in Worcester, Bob was the son of William S. and Florence M. (Thompson) Mansfield, and lived most of his life in Worcester before moving to Millbury in 1986.
Bob graduated from Commerce High School and Clark University. After high school, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and proudly served his country in both the Pacific and Atlantic Theatres during World War II. He worked as a yellow pages representative for 30 years at New England Telephone Co., later known as NYNEX Corp. After retiring, Bob worked for friends at Fox Bus Co. as a part-time tour bus driver. He enjoyed driving Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops on their many venues throughout New England.
He was a long-time member of the Telephone Pioneers, the Greendale Men’s Club and the Harold N. Keith American Legion Post 204 of West Boylston. Irene and Bob loved wintering in Arizona. His passion in life was playing golf and particularly enjoyed time spent golfing with his wife Irene and his many friends at Wachusett Country Club in West Boylston.
Bob leaves his loving wife of 27 years, Irene C. (Lavergne) Mansfield; his six children, Linda A. Zambarano and her husband, William, Joan E. Bloom and her husband, Mark, Cynthia F. Mansfield all of Worcester, Robert W. Mansfield, Jr. and his partner Val Mosko of Holden,William F. Mansfield and his wife, Alexis of West Brookfield and James M. Mansfield and his wife, Elizabeth of Fairfax, VA; his stepsons, Scott Gardner and his wife, Colleen of Shrewsbury and Gregory Gardner and his wife, Laura of Merrimack, NH; his sisters-in-law, Elizabeth “Betsy” Mansfield, Sadie Goesch and her husband William, all of Worcester; fifteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two nephews and four nieces. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard S. Mansfield, Sr., in 2000.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 28, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A funeral service honoring Bob’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 29, in the funeral home followed by interment with military honors at Notre Dame Cemetery 162 Webster Street, Worcester.
