HOLDEN - Robert L. McGourty passed away peacefully at home in Holden on Friday, July 8, 2016 with his loving family by his side. He was 73. Born and raised in Worcester, Bob was the son of Walter and Margaret (Sykes) McGourty and lived 43 years in Holden. He leaves his daughters, Laura McGourty and her husband, Michael of San Fransisco, CA and Sheryl L. McGourty of Durango, CO; a brother, Walter McGourty of West Dennis; a sister, Sue Chionchio of Vero Beach, Fl; his grandchildren, Cedar and Raeya; and several nephews and nieces. His longtime companion and best friend, Kathleen M. Scavone died in 2015. Bob graduated from North High School and attended Worcester Junior College both in Worcester. His professional life as a construction superintendent extended over forty years and worked for Granger R.W. & Sons, Inc. Builders and Contractors in Worcester. Bob was a devoted father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was proud of his daughters and their many accomplishments and cherished times spent with them in California and Colorado. When not at work, Bob enjoyed the simple things in life including solving daily crossword puzzles, working out at Worcester Fitness and relaxing at Rutland State Park with his dogs, Clancy and Rose. He had an affinity to the ocean and looked forward to spending time vacationing with family and friends at Cape Cod. Bob had an extended network of close friends with whom he played golf and solved many of the world’s problems at the Blue Plate in Holden. He was proud of his Irish heritage and had a love for mashed potatoes. He will be remembered for his tenacity and open minded outlook on life. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bob's family from 10 to 11:30 am on Wednesday, July 13, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St, Holden followed by a funeral service honoring his life at 11:30 am.
