Biography
HOLDEN - Robert David Lindstrom, 86, of Holden, died peacefully in the company of his loving family on April 10, 2017. He was born in Holden to Kathryn E. (Costine ) and David C. Lindstrom. He leaves Sandra, his beloved wife of 42 years; his children, Gregory A. Lindstrom and his wife Ornela of Holden, Mark R. Lindstrom of Citrus Heights, CA, Peter D. Lindstrom of Barre, Lisa D. Landry of Barre; granddaughters, Sofia and Maya Lindstrom; grandson, William G. Landry; cousin, Debbie Costine; sister and brother in law, Barbara and Paul Libbey; niece, Mary Libbey; and nephew, David Libbey. Bob graduated from Clark University in 1952, with a bachelor’s degree in International Relations. His work life began as a sales representative for Scott Paper and Moore Business Forms. He later started his own business "Forms Source.” In the 60's and 70's he gave his time to Civil Rights, taught adults to read as a "Literacy Volunteer", and co-founded the "Holden Hotline.” During this time he and his family welcomed a high school student from Ghana into their home for a yearlong stay and were proud of her success when she earned her PhD from an American university. At the age of 70, Bob worked as a "Family Support Worker" for the Worcester Youth Guidance Center, a period in his work life he looked on with great satisfaction. In 2005, he launched "Visiting Angels Living Assistance Services” with his wife and son Greg. He was hugely proud of its reputation as a premier provider of non medical home care services to elders and their families in Worcester County. In his retirement he "worked the phones" for several presidential and senate candidates. A voracious reader of history he had a book with him always. He loved the game of chess and played twice a week for the last 12 years with his dear friend Tom. Bob remained youthful all of his life, ever determined, always personable, endlessly conversational and entertaining. It was not unusual for him to break into song with his "perfect pitch" voice. We wish we could have had him forever. Our most heartfelt thanks go to our Visiting Angels Caregivers, who gave him their love and support in the last months of his life. Friends and family are invited to attend funeral services at 1:30 pm on Saturday, April 15 at St. Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury Street, Worcester. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden Street, Worcester, MA 01606.
