Robert 'Bob' J. Girouard

PAXTON –Robert “Bob” J. Girouard, 65, of Lawrence Street, died peacefully in his home on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, under the loving care of his family and the staff at UMass Memorial Hospice. He was born in Worcester, the son of Lawrence A. and Beatrice M. (Raymond) Girouard and lived his entire life in Paxton.

Bob is survived and will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 40 years, Patricia A. (Bates) Girouard; two sons, Todd R. Girouard of Sturbridge and Mark D. Girouard and his wife Stephanie of Sterling; two brothers, Peter Girouard and his wife Mary of Hubbardston and Paul Girouard of Hartford, CT; a sister, Caroline Price of Worcester; six grandchildren, Emily Paquette, Hannah, Ryann, Rachael, Ali, and Mya Girouard; a sister-in-law, Claire A. Girouard of Paxton; many nephews and nieces. His brother, Lawrence A. Girouard, Jr. of Paxton, died September 9th. He was also predeceased by his sister, Sandra Barber.

After attending Wachusett Regional High School, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Vietnam War aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Kitty Hawk. He worked at Cunningham Oil Company in Paxton for 36 years, retiring in 2007. He was a member of St. Columba Church and the American Legion Post 306 in Paxton. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his close friend Patrick Fanning and was an avid New England sports fan especially baseball. Bob was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, January 8, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral will be held on Monday, January 9, from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Columba Church, 18 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery, 251 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place-West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445.
