WEST BOYLSTON - Robert S. Houston, age 92, of West Boylston and Worcester, died December 15 at Knollwood Nursing Center after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Blanche (McLoughlin) Houston, with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage.
Born in New Hampshire, he was the son of the late Hormidas L. Houston and Olia M. (Brown) Houston; the family moved to Worcester when Mr. Houston was a teenager. He served in the United States Navy during World War II; afterwards, he graduated from the University of Texas, and later earned a Masters’ degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He worked for over 30 years at Norton Company in Worcester.
Mr. Houston was an avid sportsman, enjoying golf, tennis, bowling, biking, and skiing, and he was a man of many and varied interests and skills. He was a parishioner at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in West Boylston for over 40 years. He was a devoted husband, caring for his wife through many illnesses, and a loving father.
He is survived by his daughter, Beth Houston, and her husband, Karl Gerds, of Watertown, MA, and a sister-in-law, Dorothy McLoughlin of Holden, MA. The family would like to thank the Briarwood Continuing Care Retirement Community for the care received during the 7 comfortable and happy years that Mr. Houston resided there.
There will be a private memorial service for family, and no calling hours. Donations in Mr. Houston's name can be made to the Beaman Memorial Public Library, 8 Newton St., West Boylston, MA 01583. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
