Holden - Robert L. Hastings, 85, entered his Lord’s presence peacefully on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, MA. He was born in Port Huron, MI, the son of Olive Ida Mae (Dicer) and Louis J. Hastings and grew up in Flint, MI.
Robert proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. After returning home, he pursued a career in the field of x-ray technology, graduating from the Hurley School of X-ray Technology in 1957. Robert enjoyed a 36 year career as an x-ray technician at Flint Osteopathic Hospital. It was while working there that he met and began dating a special young patient, Marion Schreiber. Eight months later, the couple married and settled in Flint, MI. They lived in Michigan for many years until moving to Holden, MA in 2014.
Robert had many passions in life. He was an avid reader, especially spy novels and novels concerning the American Revolution. Robert loved the game of chess, and he especially enjoyed playing a game with his grandson, Dan. Robert also had a love for martial arts, studying Shotokan karate and Aikido. He later focused on Shotokan karate, earning the rank of black belt at the age of 65! Above all, Robert loved the Lord and enjoyed being a part of the Bible Study Fellowship organization in Michigan. Through the years, he was a member of Calvary Bible Church and Mayfair Bible Church in Michigan and later at LifeSource Church in Massachusetts where he leaves many dear friends.
Robert will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Marion L. Hastings; his son, Steve Hastings of Phoenix, AZ; his daughter, Judith (Dean) Cudworth of Worcester, MA; and his grandchildren, Daniel (Erin) Cudworth and Hannah Cudworth. He will also be sadly missed by Jess and Nick Flood who were like grandchildren to him and the crew at the Texas Roadhouse in Worcester where he and Marion frequently dined. He was predeceased by his brother, Duane Hastings and his sisters, Donna Resseguie, Darlene Casciano and his step-sister, Sharon Newcomb.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service honoring and celebrating Robert's life on Saturday, December 15th at 2:00 PM at LifeSource Church, 350 Stafford St., Cherry Valley, MA.
