SPENCER - Robert W. Halloran passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at his home in Spencer, surrounded by his loving family. Rob was born in Worcester in 1961, one of eight children of Joseph P. and the late (Catherine) Phyllis Halloran. He grew up in the close-knit “Edgie” neighborhood and stayed in touch with many of his childhood friends throughout his life. Rob was educated in the Worcester Public Schools and graduated from Burncoat Senior High School in 1979.
Rob was a proud Worcester Firefighter and considered it an honor to serve the City of Worcester for every one of his 29 years on the department. He began his career at “the Rock” on Providence Street. When that station closed, he moved with Engine 12 to the Franklin Street Station.
In 1997 he married the love of his life and his best friend Megan M. (Finn) Halloran. Together they raised three amazing human beings Mikayla C., Fiona K. and Brendan R. Halloran, as well as numerous cats, dogs and guinea pigs. Rob delighted in being involved in his children’s lives. He attended as many of their sports events and school activities as his schedule allowed.
He was an enthusiastic participant in pick-up basketball games. In fact, he was enthusiastic about everything that life had to offer. He showed up without being asked, pitched in with whatever needed to be done and made it all the more fun just by being there. Rob was serious about what he did, but he didn’t take himself seriously. He worked hard, but when it was time to play, he was ready. He had a smile that could light up a room and a personality to match. Throughout the years, the Halloran home in Spencer was the destination for gatherings of family, friends and sports teams.
He was a wonderful friend, a “best” friend to many. For all of himself that he gave to friends and community, for Rob, family came first. Always. We are all the better for having known and loved him and the worse for having lost him. He will be desperately missed by everyone who had the honor to know him.
In addition to his wife and children and his father, Rob is survived by his siblings, Patricia Chamberlain and her husband, Chester of West Boylston, Christine Kooyomjian and her husband, Mark of West Boylston; Joseph Halloran and his wife, Cheryl of Hyannis, Kevin Halloran and his wife, Maryellen of Worcester, Michael Halloran and his wife, Maureen of Worcester, Paul Halloran and his wife Patricia of Auburn, Brian Halloran and his wife, Kathy of Broken Arrow, OK; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Rob’s family from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 19, at Mary Queen of the Rosary Church, 46 Maple St., Spencer. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery in North Brookfield. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Rob may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
