WORCESTER/HOLDEN - Robert E. Goodney, age 91, passed away unexpectedly with his family by his side on Monday, August 15, 2022. Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Theodore and Amelia M. (McGuire) Goodney.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, M. Madeleine (McGinn) Goodney. He leaves behind two daughters, Patricia M. and her husband, Stephen J. Murphy of Sturbridge and Cynthia A. and Thomas J. McDavitt of Holden; eight grandchildren Brendan, Aaron, Kerrilyn, Patrick, Bryan, Erynn, Connor, and Kailee; six great-grandchildren, Shawn, John, Charlie, Millie, Lily, and Declan. He also leaves a brother, Theodore R. Goodney of Florida. He was predeceased by a sister, Dorlis and his brother, John R. Goodney; his grandson, Shawn R. McDavitt and his great-grandson, Luke W. McDavitt. Robert was most happy and content when he was with his family. He will be missed by them dearly.
Robert graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School where he excelled in football, baseball, and basketball. He was recently inducted into the Worcester Public Schools Athletic Hall of Fame in May 2022. After high school, he went on to serve four years in the Korean War as a Seabee. After his military service, Robert worked for many years at Clark University, retiring as Director of Building and Grounds in 1989.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 20th, at St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton St., Holden, followed by a procession to St. John's Cemetery, 260 Cambridge St., Worcester.
