Robert D. Ethier

June 26, 1937 — August 24, 2014

STERLING/WEST BOYLSTON – Robert D. Ethier, 77, of West Boylston, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 24, 2014 under the loving care of his family and the staff at Summit Elder Care. Born in Worcester and raised in Cherry Valley, Bob was the son of Joseph O. and Mary E. (LaFountaine) Ethier and lived 35 years in Sterling before moving to West Boylston in 2008.



Bob graduated from Leicester High School where he was vice president of his class and captain of their varsity football team. He attended New England Institute in Boston and worked as a funeral director for his father-in-law at Flagg Funeral Home in West Boylston. He later retired from UPS where he worked for several years. Bob and his wife, Marilyn owned and operated Mountain View Christmas Tree Farm in Sterling for many years.



He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Korea. Bob was a member of St. Richard of Chichester Church in Sterling and a former member of the Auburn Knights of Columbus. He was an avid New England sports fan and particularly enjoyed attending the N E Patriot’s games as a season ticket holder. He was selfless in nature and never complained, always remaining positive no matter what challenges came his way. Bob was proud of his daughters and grandchildren and their many accomplishments. Family always came first with Bob. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.



He leaves his beloved wife of 53 years, Marilyn R. (Flagg) Ethier; two daughters, April M. Ethier of West Boylston and Andrea L. Dolan and her husband, Joseph of Sterling; a brother, Richard Ethier and his wife, Dottie of Oxford; three grandchildren, Joseph Dolan, Jr., Alexis Dolan and James Gurley, Jr.; several nephews and nieces; and his faithful “Yorkie companions.” He is predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Raymond Ethier, and his sister, Lorraine T. Koronkevich.



Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, at the Miles - Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 29, at St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge St., Sterling. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Cemetery in West Boylston. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Spastic Paraplegia Foundation, Inc., P.O.
