RUTLAND/HOLDEN - Robert "Bob" E. Strand, 81, of Village Way, Rutland, passed away at home on Tuesday, July 16, 2013. He was born on June 15, 1932 in Worcester, the son of Johan E. and Christine (Goulding) Strand.
Bob was a graduate of Commerce High School and Wentworth Institute in Boston. He proudly served his country as a Korean War veteran in the U.S. Navy from 1949-1953 followed by the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. While stationed in Füssen, Germany, he met the love of his life and married, Magdalena Lochbihler. They lived in Worcester and 48 years in Holden before moving to Rutland 10 years ago. Bob worked for Norton Co. in Worcester for 38 years, retiring as a Group Leader, AC, Refrigeration Dept. in 1989. He was a member and Past Master of the Rufus Putnam Lodge of Masons in Rutland.
He leaves his wife of 48 years, Magdalena "Maggie" Strand; two sons, Donald R. Strand of Rutland and Richard M. Strand of Sanford, Maine; a daughter, Lisa A. Appell and her husband Jay of Hopedale; a sister, Lillian Fairbanks of Worcester; four granddaughters, Lauren and Holly Strand, and Jennifer and Emily Herzog; and many nephews and nieces.
Bob will be best known for his quick wit and seeing the funny side of everything!

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 21 at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A Masonic Service by the Rufus Putnam Lodge of Masons will be held at 4:30 p.m. during calling hours. A Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 22, at the Committal Chapel, Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
