HOLDEN - Robert C. Hsu, 66, of 6 Centerwood Drive, died Sunday, January 18, 2004, in UMass Memorial Hospital, Worcester, of complications from leukemia.
He leaves his wife of 39 years, Sharon B. (Branch) Hsu; a son, Steven W. Hsu of Portland, OR; and two nephews. His daughter, Nancy M. Hsu, died in 1998, and a brother, Terry T. Hsu, predeceased him. He was born in Taiwan, the son of Wan-dar and Fen (Tsai) Hsu. He graduated from National Taiwan University and earned his Ph.D from the University of California, Berkeley. He lived in Holden for 33 years.
Mr. Hsu was a Professor of Economics at Clark University in Worcester for over thirty years. He was a Fulbright Scholar. He published two books on economics, Economic Theories in China 1979-1988 and M.I.T. Encyclopedia of Japan. He was active in biking and had taken bike tours in Europe and Canada; he also enjoyed reading and writing.
A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Hsu will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2004, in the Holden Senior Center, 1130 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, followed by a reception. Burial is private. Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2004, in Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden.
