Robert G. Barton

HOLDEN - Robert G. Barton, Sr., 96, a resident of Dunedin, FL for the past several years died peacefully on October 29, 2016. He was born and raised in Worcester, a son of the late Fred and Ruth (Sanders) Barton.



Bob graduated from North High School and Virginia Polytechnic Institute. HE worked for many years as an industrial engineer for the US Steel Company while they were located in Worcester. Following the company’s closing of the Worcester plant, Bob started to work as a private consultant, which he did for many years to follow. He was longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Holden and the First Congregational Church of Spencer. A 32nd Degree Mason, Bob was a member of the Rufus Putnam Lodge of Masons, Rutland. Along with his wife, Selma, Bob spent many years enjoying the beauty of Lake Lashaway in North Brookfield. He loved the lake and was a longtime member of the Lake Lashaway Sailing Club.



His beloved wife of 61 years, Selma (Ankers) Barton died in 2005. He leaves his son, Robert G. Barton, Jr. and his wife, Jeanne of Dunedin, FL and West Boylston; his three adoring grandchildren, Melissa McLaughlin and her husband, Dan of Rutland, Leah Barton of West Boylston and Bobby Barton of California; his great grandchildren, Sean and Isaiah Barton and Calli and Molli McLaughlin. He was predeceased by his brother, Fred W. Barton.


Funeral services and burial in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton will be held at a later date. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
