PRINCETON – Arlene R. (Murphy) Hunt of Village Way, Rutland, passed away on Monday, April 12, 2010, in UMass Memorial Healthcare-University Campus, Worcester, after a long illness. She was 76.
Her husband of 29 years, State Trooper Edward O. Hunt, died in 1986. She is survived by her son, James E. Hunt of Portland, ME; three daughters, Jayne E. Lepage and her husband Doug and Jacqueline L. Roy, all of Holden; and Judith A. Josti and her husband Larry of Rutland; two brothers, Darrell Murphy of Apple Valley, CA and Ronald Murphy of Walnut, CA; 7 grandchildren, Caitlyn, Edward, Christian, Brittany, Jamie Lynn, Anna and Kathleen; and many nephews and nieces. Three brothers, Rodney and Frank Murphy and Irving Patten, and two sisters, Thelma Drost and Dawn Levesque, predeceased her.
Arlene was born on March 26, 1934 in Presque Isle, Maine, a daughter of Frank and Alta F. (Mills) Murphy and lived in Princeton for over 40 years before moving to Rutland four years ago. She was a graduate of Newport High School in Newport, ME, and was a legal secretary at Bowditch & Dewey in Worcester for many years, retiring in 1999. She was a member of the Rutland Senior Center where she was a regular at playing cards. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, but most of all, loved spending time with her family and grandchildren at the beach in Maine.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 15th, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. The funeral services for Arlene will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 16th, in The First Congregational Church of Princeton, 14 Mountain Road, Princeton. Private burial will be in Glen Valley Cemetery, Barre. The family requests donations in lieu of flowers be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
