Rita M. (Peacott) Sundin

WORCESTER – Rita M. (Peacott) Sundin, 88, of 33 Chevy Chase Road, died peacefully after a long illness on Wednesday, November 24, 2004, in her home surrounded by her loving family.

Her husband of 55 years, Warren J. Sundin, died in 2001 after a lengthy battle with cancer. She leaves two daughters, Donna L., her devoted caregiver with whom she lived, and Joan C. wife of J. Bryan Sullivan of Sterling; two grandchildren, Jeffrey and his wife Michele of Lakeland, Florida, and Kristen of Sterling; a great-granddaughter, Sophia; her daughter’s life partner, Stephen Garfield; a sister-in-law, Emma Happy of Worcester; a brother-in-law, Carl Sundin of Worcester; two nephews and many wonderful friends. Her brother, Edward and sister Lillian Foley predeceased her.

Rita was born in Worcester on December 28, 1915, daughter of the late Edward and Bertha (Plouffe) Peacott. She graduated from Commerce High School and the Elizabeth Allus Beauty Academy. She worked as a hairdresser for many years at the Stella Antull Beauty Salon where she enjoyed making others feel beautiful.

Rita was a member of the Greendale YMCA where she truly enjoyed “swimming” three days a week and socializing with her many friends. Her numerous and stylish bathing suits were a constant topic of conversation with her swim pals. She traveled extensively and until her illness was able to enjoy many wonderful cruises taken with family and friends. She especially enjoyed vacationing in Maine where she was able to visit with her life-long friend, Marcelle of Kennebunk. She loved music and gardening and was especially proud of her flower gardens. Rita also enjoyed baking for her family and friends and was famous for her bourbon pecan and apple pies. She was a member of St. George’s Church where she attended Mass faithfully until her illness confined her to her home.

Rita leaves a legacy of caring and bringing happiness and joy to all she met. She was very loving and always had a smile on her face even during her illness. Rita will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A funeral Mass for Rita will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 29, in St. George’s Church, 40 Brattle Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. Calling hours are 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, November 28, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Flowers may be sent, or donations made in her memory to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701; or the VNA Care Network, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608.
