Rita (Wood) Mckeon

January 19, 1921 — May 30, 2013

HOLDEN – Rita (Wood) McKeon of Holden passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, May 30, 2013. Rita was born in Auburn, the daughter of Charles E. and Erin C. (McCann) Wood.



Rita grew up in Fitchburg and graduated from Fitchburg High School and Becker Junior College. Rita married the love of her life, William J. McKeon in 1943 and together, they raised their three children in Holden. Rita was a member of St. George Church in Worcester. She enjoyed spending time playing golf. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.



Her beloved husband, William J. McKeon, died in 1990. She leaves her children, Bruce W. McKeon and his wife Venarette of Thomasville, NC, Marcia D. Mills and her husband Michael of Northborough and Nancy J. Walsh of Shrewsbury; her sister, Irene Palmer of Fitchburg; her grandchildren, Garrett and Brian Mills; her step-grandchildren, Lynda Theriault, Lauren Mack and Christopher Walsh. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Jonathan Walsh and a step-grandson, Douglas Walsh.



Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 2 in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. Rita’s funeral service will be held on Monday, June 3, from the funeral home with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. George Church, 38 Brattle St., Worcester. Burial will follow at Grove Cemetery, Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rita’s memory to the VNA Care Network & Hospice, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608 or a charity of one’s choice.
