HOLDEN — Rita M. (DeJoinville) Armstrong, 92, beloved wife of the late Robert N. Armstrong, Sr., passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home in Jefferson, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Worcester, she was a daughter of the late George and Marion (Flickner) DeJoinville. She was a graduate of the David Hale Fanning Trade School for Girls where she became interested in nursing. She earned her nursing degree from Quinsigamond Community College and went on to care for countless patients as a registered nurse at Worcester's Hahnemann Hospital, retiring in 1989 after many years of dedicated service.
Rita cherished time spent with her sisters, playing cards and shopping together. When her boys were young, the family would often head north to camp in the White Mountains, where many happy memories were made. Later in life, Rita enjoyed spending time with her husband at her home in Winterhaven, FL.
Rita will be lovingly missed and remembered by her four sons, Robert Armstrong, Jr. of Davenport, FL, Ronald Armstrong and his wife, Julianne of Rutland, Thomas Armstrong and his wife, Deborah of Townsend, DE and William Armstrong and his wife, Bernadette of Worcester; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband of 62 years, Bob, she was predeceased by her two sisters, Marion Cartier and Margaret Keddy, and four brothers, Joseph George, Charles, and Edward DeJoinville.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather with Rita's family from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, February 21 in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A funeral service honoring her life will be held at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by burial in Mountain View Cemetery, 22 Boylston Street, Shrewsbury, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Notre Dame Hospice, Attention Paige Thayer, 555 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
