HOLDEN – Richard "Rick" F. Hughes, 64, of Bailey Road, died on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 in UMass Memorial Healthcare-University Campus, Worcester, after being stricken ill at home. He was born in Worcester on December 10, 1946, son of Warren E. and Vivian D. (Flynn) Hughes, and lived in Holden most of his life.
Rick was a 1965 graduate of Wachusett Regional High School and earned an Associate's degree in 1967 from the Northeast Institute of Industrial Technology in Boston. He worked for Sprague Electric in Worcester for 31 years, most recently as an Electronic Technician. He enjoyed working on cars in his spare time, drag racing his car all over New England, spending time with his family in Maine, fishing and listening to music. He was a member of Greendale People's Church.
He is survived by his brother, Brian E. Hughes and his wife Diane of Holden; a sister, Wendy I. Fillow and her husband David of Holden; a nephew, Andrew Fillow; a niece, Lesley Rossi and her husband Benjamin; and two great-nieces, Madelyn and Charlotte Rossi; and several cousins. He is predeceased by his parents and his nephew, B. Justin Hughes.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, January 30th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral service for Richard will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 31st, in the funeral home. Spring burial will be at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rick's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress Street, 5th floor, Boston, MA 02210.
