WORCESTER/PRINCETON – Richard “Rick” A. Cole, 89, of East Mountain Street, Worcester, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 13, 2010 in the St. Francis Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Worcester, after a brief illness.
He leaves his wife of 67 years, Anita H. (Hart) Cole; a son, Stephen L. Cole and his wife Cynthia of Westborough; three grandchildren, Jaimeson, Jeffrey and Aislyn Cole, all of Westborough; and nephews and nieces. A son, Dennis R. Cole, died in 1967. His twin brother, Robert Cole and another brother, Frederick Cole, predeceased him. He was born and raised in Worcester, son of Roy and Ann (Baxter) Cole, and lived 15 years in Westborough and 20 years in Princeton before moving to Worcester 13 years ago.
Rick was a graduate of Commerce High School and attended leadership seminars. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving aboard the USS Cabot in the Asiatic Pacific and American Theatres. He worked for Olson Manufacturing in Holden, now Inner-tite for 45 years, retiring in 1986 as a Mechanical Engineer. After retirement, he worked part time for Sunnyside Motors, on the grounds at Holden Hills Country Club and more recently, at the Big Y Supermarket in Holden. He was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church and the John E. Harkins American Legion Post 42 in Holden. Rick, along with his wife, organized and operated "Listening Ear", a support, informational and referral service hot-line in the Westborough area for teenagers.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service for Rick on Saturday, December 18th, at 10 a.m. in the St. Francis Episcopal Church, 70 Highland Street (Rte. 31), Holden. Burial will be private in Pine Grove Cemetery, Westborough. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
