Richard E. Wiles

June 10, 1951 — December 11, 2019

PRINCETON – Richard “Rick” E. Wiles, 68, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at UMass Memorial Healthcare Worcester while in the loving care of his family after a four-year battle with cancer. Born in Albany and raised in Kingston, NY, Rick was the son of the late Deforest C. and Eunice D. (Dahl) Wiles, and lived over 40 years in Princeton.

Rick will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 25 years, Marcia E. (Phillips) Wiles; his son, Nicholas S. Wiles of Boston; his sister, Susan Wiles and her husband, David Dery of Canajoharie, NY; and his extended family. Besides his parents, Rick is predeceased by his first wife, Janice (Hein) Wiles.

After graduating from high school, Rick enrolled at Northeastern University in Boston where he received a bachelor’s degree in Business Management/Marketing. Rick spent the following 14 years working for Conte Insurance Co. in Paxton. In 1988 Rick, along with his new business partner Peggy Zottoli, bought John Graves Insurance agency in Princeton and Westminster where he enjoyed serving the local community for 30 years.

When not at the office, Rick could be found playing golf at the former Petersham Country Club where he was president of the board. One of his biggest joys in life was passing down his love of the game to his son. He cherished the memories made playing with Nick as well as his many golf friends, which included trips to Ireland, Myrtle Beach, Florida and especially an annual trip to the Summit Lodge in Killington, Vermont.

Rick also coached several youth sports including the Princeton/Sterling Baseball League, the Princeton Pirates indoor soccer team, and the Princeton youth travel basketball team. Above all, Rick simply loved spending time at home watching New England sports with his wife and son.

Rick’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the dedicated and compassionate doctors, nurses and staff at Simons-Sinon Regional Cancer Center in Fitchburg for their exceptional care and guidance.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Rick’s family from 3 to 6 pm on Sunday, December 15, at Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling. A funeral service celebrating Rick’s life will be held at 11am on Monday, December 16 at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately at West Cemetery in Princeton.
