Biography
HOLDEN - Richard Keefe White, 70, completed his tour of duty on Saturday, September 23, 2017 after a long struggle with health issues. He passed under the loving care of his family and the staff at the Odd Fellows Home in Worcester. Born on July 8, 1947 in Holden, Dick was a son of William A. and Regina A. (Keefe) White.
After graduation from Wachusett Regional High School in 1966, Dick enlisted in US Army, and attended Infantry School and Officer Candidate School. He served his country with pride as an Infantry Unit Commander in Vietnam, attaining the rank of Captain. Dick later worked for the United States Postal Service in the Shrewsbury office. He continued to advocate for and give aid to fellow veterans seeking assistance.
He is survived by his daughter, Sarah E. White of Worcester; five siblings, William A. White, Jr. and his wife, Cathleen Bradshaw-White of Holden, Elaine F. Simes of Rutland, Frederic J. White of Exeter, NH, Thomas J. White and his wife, Suellen of Norfolk, and David J. White and his wife, Bonnie of Holden; his former wife, Lynette (Polaski) White of Worcester; and many nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his parents, and a sister, Mary Jean Flynn.
Dick’s family would like to thank the staff of the Odd Fellows Home, in particular, Elaine Peter, whose care was a great comfort in his final days.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Veterans, Inc., 69 Grove St., Worcester, MA 01605 or a charity of one’s choice.
