WORCESTER/HOLDEN - Richard V. Granger, 86, of 101 Chadwick Street, Worcester, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Autumn Village Nursing Home, Hospice Unit, Worcester on Tuesday, August 10, 2004.

He leaves his wife of 63 years, Dorothy J. (Greany) Granger; three daughters, Dorothy J. Granger of Holden and her three daughters, Linda J. Jumonville and her husband Jean of Dade City, Florida and their two daughters, Diane P. Perry and her husband Bradford of Rutland and their daughter and son; four sons, Richard V. Granger Jr., and his wife Cynthia of Princeton and their daughter and two sons, James R. Granger of Tahoe City, CA and his daughter, Steven M. Granger and his wife Sarah of Holden and their daughter and son, Timothy G. Granger and his wife Linda of Tahoe City, CA, and their daughter and three sons. His son, David P. Granger, a sister, Gertrude Priestly and two brothers, Edmund and Henry Granger, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, the youngest son of Amidee and Anna (Mara) Granger. He was a Marine Corps Veteran of World War II, serving in the Battle of Iwo Jima and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre.

Mr. Granger was a trusted and respected life insurance agent with John Hancock Life Insurance Company for 30 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Jefferson, the Greendale Men’s Club, the Worcester Lodge of Elks, the 4th Marine Corps Division Association of American Legion Post #42, the VFW Post in West Boylston and a former member of the Frohsinn Club. Dick was an avid golfer who founded and participated in the annual Granger Golf Tournament over several decades. He enjoyed and shared his love of golf with all generations of family and friends. Music and singing were a large part of his hobbies. He often sang and was accompanied by his wife Dorothy on the piano.

The funeral will be held Thursday, August 12, from the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street, Worcester. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday, August 11, in the funeral home.
