WORCESTER, MA /KENNEBUNK, ME - Richard “Dick” R. DuPont, Sr., 95, of Kennebunk, formerly of Worcester, died Saturday evening, December 7, 2013 at Kennebunk Center for Health and Rehabilitation. He was born in Worcester on May 3, 1918, the son of Eli and Florence (Brennan) DuPont and graduated from Commerce High School, and attended Northeastern University.
On June 21, 1947, he married the former Goldie G. Ramsey. They shared 60 wonderful years together until her death in 2007.
Dick was a sales representative for Mogul Corporation, specializing in industrial water treatment, later known as Dexter Corporation and now known as Invitrogen Corporation, from where he retired in 1983.
Following his retirement, Dick and Goldie moved to Maine. In 60 years of marriage, they were rarely, if ever, apart from each other; they literally did everything together, from crafts, traveling, walking the beaches, exploring small shops, and having breakfast together at several venues. Dick enjoyed woodworking in his basement shop, making furniture and other items. Goldie would complete his projects by adding her artistic talents. When not woodworking, Dick, along with his sons, always had a “do-it-yourself” project going on around the home.
While living in Massachusetts, he was very active in Worcester Toastmasters #1193, where he was president and Toastmaster of the Year in 1965. He was also an active member of the National Association of Power Engineers, Chapter 32, in Worcester.
In addition to his loving wife Goldie, he was predeceased by a son, Randall S. DuPont, and his brother, Paul DuPont.
Richard is survived by two sons, Richard R. DuPont, Jr. and wife Gail of Kennebunk, Wayne R. DuPont and wife Gail of Boylston; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude and thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Kennebunk Center for Health and Rehabilitation for their compassionate and loving care of Richard during his final days.
