WORCESTER/PAXTON – Richard R. “Dick” Pentland, 91, died peacefully at home on Monday, December 26, 2022. He was born in North Tonawanda, NY, the son of Lewis J. and Marium J. (Pickard) Pentland.
Dick graduated from the Choate School in Wallingford, CT and from Hobart College in 1953 where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. Following his graduation, Dick enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S. Purdy. While vacationing in Wells, ME he met the love of his life, Elinor “Jean” (Tibbets). The couple married and relocated to Buffalo, NY for a time before eventually settling in Paxton. After retirement, Dick and Jean moved to The Willows in Worcester where they leave many dear friends.
Dick founded Lastomerex, now Jefferson Rubber Works, and ran the company with Jean and their son, David, until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Paxton and enjoyed cheering on the Red Sox and the Patriots. Dick and Jean loved sailing and enjoyed many voyages on their boat “Elan” which they moored in Dutch Harbor, RI. They enjoyed travelling and vacationed in Tortola, B.V.I. for many years. Above all he was a devoted son, brother, husband, father and grandfather.
Dick was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jean, of 63 years, in 2021. He is survived by his son, David Pentland and his wife, Susan of Princeton; two daughters, Julia Conte and her husband, Jay of Paxton and Nancy DeGrace and her husband, Robert of Lunenburg; seven grandchildren, Jon, Zach, Laurel, Peter and his wife, Jackie, Steven, Emma and Jake; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Services are private and under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
