HOLDEN – Richard T. McHugh, 71, of River Street, died peacefully at his home in the presence of his loving wife on Monday, September 24, 2012. He was born and raised in Greenwich Village, New York, son of Thomas A. and Caroline E. (DuBarry) McHugh, and lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for several years before moving to Holden 41 years ago.
Rich attended St. Luke’s School where he sang with the Trinity Boys Choir at Carnegie Hall. He graduated from McBurney High School and the College of Insurance, both in New York City. He started his career in the insurance industry in 1960 at Hanover Insurance Co. where he worked for 25 years and later joined Harleysville Insurance Co., retiring in 1999.
Rich was a member of the Greendale Retired Men’s Club. He coached Holden Youth Soccer and assisted his wife coaching Holden Youth Softball.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Diane (Osmundsen) McHugh; a daughter, Caroline E. McHugh of Worcester; two sons, John P. McHugh of Manchester, New Hampshire and Robert D. McHugh and his wife Rebecca of Concord, New Hampshire; a brother, William McHugh and his wife Muriel of Aiken, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Grace M. and Clara O. McHugh, and Luke McHugh Allard; and nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 27, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 346 Shrewsbury Street, Holden. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Feed The Children, P.O.
