Biography
WORCESTER - Richard Edward McCue, 81, of Worcester Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 22, 2015 with his family at his side.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Mildred (Katz) McCue, a daughter, Deborah I. Darke and her husband, Gregory H., of Queensland, Australia, a daughter, Karen S. Schmidt and her husband, Michael W. of Worcester, and a grandson, George W. Schmidt.
Born in Hanover, New Hampshire, Richard was the son of the late Marjorie Brown (Stuart) and John James McCue. He grew up in Newport, RI and graduated from Rogers High School where he was a starter for the varsity baseball team. In 1957 he earned his bachelor of science in Business Management from Northeastern University. Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as Platoon Sargent stationed at Heidelberg, Germany from 1958 to 1960. After an honorable discharge, he returned to the U.S where he worked in the insurance industry while attending Suffolk University Law School. Richard earned his JD in 1967, graduating with honors and sixth in his class. In 1967 he was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar Association and in 1969 to the US District Court District of Massachusetts. In addition, he was a longtime member of the Worcester County Bar Association. Throughout his nearly 50 years of law practice, Attorney McCue taught legal seminars and served as a mentor to others.
Attorney McCue was Senior Trial Counsel for the Law Office of Arthur W. Nichols and Senior Corporate Council for the Law Offices of Black and McCue. He retired from the Law Firm of Burns and Farrey, where he had been the Managing Attorney for their Worker’s Compensation Department. The practice of law was both his vocation and avocation, and he truly enjoyed being in a courtroom.
Richard was a long time member of the Masons, Level Lodge of Worcester, and the Worcester Lodge of Elks. He had many interests and hobbies, but his greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.
Richard recognized the preciousness of life and lived it to the fullest, grabbing life with both hands.
