WORCESTER – Richard Lipson, 90, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at UMass Memorial-University Campus, Worcester. Born and raised in Worcester, Richard was the son of Robert and Rose (Goodman) Lipson and lived most of his life here in Worcester. His wife of 48 years, Patricia (Solod) Lipson died in 2014.
He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his son, Steven M. Lipson and his partner, Donna McKinney of Millbury; his daughter, Trayce Lipson Bahar and her husband, Izak of Delaware; four grandchildren, Jessica Lipson and her fiancé, Duncan, Michael Lipson and his fiancée, Jenna, Rachel Bahar and Robert Bahar and his fiancée, Morgan. Besides his parents, Richard is predeceased by three sisters, Marsha Sheppard, Lillian Griff and Ruth Blustein.
Richard was a graduate of Classical High School, class of 1948. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard and later in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a First Lieutenant and paratrooper. He graduated from the University of Texas with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Richard owned and operated Richard Yale Industries in Worcester for 20 years and later worked for Flynn Petroleum until his retirement in 2019.
In his spare time, Richard enjoyed playing tennis, sailing, skiing and following New England sport teams. His life was centered on his family close friends. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their many activities.
A service honoring Richard’s life will be held graveside at 11 a.m. on Sunday, February 23, at B’Nai Brith Cemetery in Worcester, followed by a memorial reception and Observance until 5 p.m. at the Jewish Healthcare Center, 629 Salisbury St., Worcester.
