Richard W. Griffin

RUTLAND — Richard “Griff” W. Griffin, 74, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Harrington Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Holden, the son of William H. and Julia T. (Myers) Griffin, Sr. and had lived in Rutland and Vail, AZ before moving to Charlton three months ago.
He leaves his wife of 26 years, Donna M. (Mullaney) Griffin; a son, James R. Griffin of Vail, AZ; three daughters, Sharon L. Chanaki of Macclenney, FL, Carol A. Overbey and her husband, Darrell of Los Lunas, NM and Becky L. Los and her husband, William of Warren; a step-daughter, Kelly E. Paine and her husband, Christopher, Sr.; two sisters, Lois M. Love and Nor-ma T. Kallio, both of Paxton; thirteen grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two brothers, William, Jr. and Robert Griffin.
Richard was a mechanic at Devereux for 23 years before retiring in 2003. Previously, he worked for many years at the family business, Griffin’s Garage in Rutland. He was a former member of the First Congregational Church in Rutland, a car enthusiast; he enjoyed boxing, his dogs and his cat “Murphy”.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec.19, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Funeral services for Richard will be held at 11 a.m. on Sat., Dec 20, in the funeral home. A private committal service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472, or American Heart/Stroke Association, P.O.
