STERLING - Richard L. Foster passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 7, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was 87. Born in Worcester on July 7, 1936, Dick was the son of the late Ernest A. Foster and lived all his life in Sterling.
Dick was a 1954 graduate of Clinton High School. Upon graduating high school, Dick enlisted in the U.S. Navy and honorably served his country during the Korean War. He worked at Raytheon in Waltham before joining W.R. Sanders Contracting Company in Sterling as an estimator. He retired from National Glass in Worcester where he worked for over 10 years as an estimator.
One of Dick's favorite pastimes was working at home in his woodworking shop. As a craftsman, he designed and built most of his home furnishings and was generous with his time and talent. Dick was a homebody who cherished time spent with his family. He will be remembered for his humor and kind nature.
He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 39 years Carole A. (LaFleur) Foster who predeceased him in 2002; son, Kevin R. Foster and his wife, Beth Litterio-Foster of Sterling; daughter, Kimberly A. Lederer and her husband, Brian of Jefferson; brother, Gary Foster of Ashville, NC; five grandchildren, Nicholas and Drew Lederer, and Kyle, Nathan, and Abbigale Foster; and his "later love and dear friend," Dorothye E. Cannon of Clinton.
Dick's family will remember and celebrate his life privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sterling Fire/Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 515, Sterling, MA 01564.
Arrangements are under the care of the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St, Holden.
