WORCESTER - Richard A. Benoit, 81, died peacefully on Monday, July 8, 2019 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence in Worcester. He was born in Worcester, the son of Asa L. and Addie (McKeown) Benoit and graduated from South High School with the class of 1956.
Richard went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Army at Fort McPherson, Georgia. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth Fullen in 1962. The couple settled in Worcester where they raised their family and were blessed with 44 years of marriage. After his service in the military Richard earned an Associates in Arts/Business Administration from Worcester Jr. College and went on to a fruitful career as a Systems Analyst for several Massachusetts based banks, retiring from Bank Boston in 2002.
Richard was a devout member of Christ the King Church, where he taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine and served as a Eucharistic Minister and CYC Advisor. After retirement, Richard was an active member of the Greendale Retired Men's Club where he leaves many dear friends. He truly had a gift for gardening and took great pride in his flowers and vegetables. Above all he cherished his family and spending time with his beloved grandchildren.
Richard was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Elizabeth Ann (Fullen) Benoit in 2007 and an infant son, Paul Benoit. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Kathleen Baker and her husband, Dr. Frederic Baker of Holden; Michael Benoit and his wife, Lucinda of Holden and Andrew Benoit and his wife, Nancy of Worcester. In addition, Richard leaves behind his grandchildren, Christopher and his fiancée Emily, Matthew, Thomas and Timothy Baker and Lindsay, Eric and Paige Benoit; as well as many nieces and nephews. He also leaves his brother, Robert Benoit and his wife, Lauren of Westminster, South Carolina.
His family would like to especially thank Dr. Jeanne Rousseau for her support and kind, compassionate care over the course of his illness.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, July 12, 2019 at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Saturday, July 13th at Christ the King Church 1052 Pleasant St., Worcester. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery, 260 Cambridge St., Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Veteran's Inc., 69 Grove St., Worcester, MA 01605.
