Richard Victor Augustine

SPENCER – Richard Victor Augustine, 75, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospital after an illness. He was born in Worcester, the son of Victor A. and Johanna M. (Daley) Augustine and had lived in Worcester and Charlton before moving to Spencer in 1999.He leaves his loving wife of 53 years, Patricia M. (Kowalski) Augustine, who considered him the love of her life and her best friend; his son, Michael R. Augustine and his wife, Kyriaki of Charlton; his daughter, Jennifer L. McMillan and her husband, Scott of Holden; his sister, Elizabeth M. Farkas and her husband, Edward of South Carolina; nine cherished grandchildren, Alexander, Derek, Benjamin, Lauren, Jessica, Ashley, Aphrodite, Raychel and Andreas; six nephews and three nieces.Richard proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Tulare (AKA-112) and the USS Boston (CAG-1) during the Vietnam War. He worked for Iron Workers Union Local 57 of Worcester for over 40 years and served as past president and business agent before retiring in 2004. Richard was a hard working and loving husband, father and grandfather who was a permanent fixture at all of his children's and grandchildren’s activities. He was always there to support them. He was an avid Boston sports fan, a handyman who could fix anything, and was full of Irish wit.Funeral services for Richard will be held on Friday, February 23, with a 12 noon Mass of Christian Burial in St. George’s Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester. Burial with military honors will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon. Please omit flowers. Memorial donations may be made in Richard’s name to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Memorial Contributions, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284, or the Disabled American Veterans, Attn: Gift Processing, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.
