RUTLAND – Reta M. (Risko) Schumacher, 77, passed away peacefully at home with her husband by her side on Monday, February 1, 2021 after an illness.
She was born in Boston, the daughter of Lawrence A. and Lillie C. (Pensinger) Risko and had lived in Boston and Queens, NY before moving to Rutland in 2002.
Reta worked as an administrative assistant for Cutter Capital Management in Worcester before retiring. Previously, she worked for Columbia Pictures before moving into movie theater exhibition for Interstate Theaters and General Cinemas for twenty-five years. It was here that Reta and Walter first crossed paths with each other when a not so pleasant phone conversation between the two happened about a wrong order. When they met in person ten years later they remembered each other. The rest is history. She was a loving supportive wife with a tough exterior and a heart of gold. She was fun, generous, kind and one of a kind. In her leisure, Reta worked with RSVP Volunteers of Central Mass and enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting.
She leaves her loving husband of 34 years, Walter J. Schumacher; her sister, Helen A. Mitchell of Fitchburg; and several cousins.
At Reta’s request, services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Will Rogers Pioneers Assistance Fund, 6767 Forest Lawn Drive, #303, Los Angeles, CA 90068.
