Rene P. Helie

June 3, 1948 — July 9, 2014

RUTLAND – Rene P. Helie, Jr., 66, died Wednesday, July 9, 2014, of injuries he sustained in a single car accident in Holden.

Rene was born and raised in Winchendon, the son of the late Ranie P. Helie, Sr. and Dorothy M. (Travaglini) Helie. He graduated from Murdock High School and then attended the New England School of Accounting and Commerce in Manchester, NH.

Rene spent his career as a talented sales associate in the corrugated container industry, currently with the Rand-Whitney Packaging Corporation in Worcester, where he has been for 29 years. Previously, he had worked for New England Wooden Ware and Massachusetts Container. Rene’s gregarious personality carried over into his work, and many of his clients were dear friends. It also was ever present with his family, friends and acquaintances in his leisure time, whether on the golf course at Quail Hollow in Oakham or Holden Country Club, or the beaches of Old Orchard, Maine, which he so loved. He was a perfectionist in many ways, especially in his work and while maintaining his yard. He was a great storyteller, enjoyed traveling and classic cars. Rene’s greatest love was sharing time with his family. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and coworkers, his extended family and especially by his beloved wife and two sons, whom he was immensely proud of.

Rene leaves his loving wife, Cheryl G. Harabedian-Helie. Together they enjoyed 29 years of marriage; his two sons, Marcus G. and Austin R. Helie, both of Rutland; and several cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Rene’s family on Sunday, July 13, from 3-7 p.m. in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A funeral service honoring Rene’s life will be held on Monday, July 14, at 10 a.m. in the Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church, 635 Grove Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Winchendon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church, 635 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
