HOLDEN – Francis "Red" G. Smith, 83 of Cutler Road, died Friday, September 3, 2010 in St. Vincent Hospital after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 13 years, Barbara V. (Nowicki) Smith; a son, Robert A. Smith and his wife Karen of Rutland; two daughters, Ann Nash and her husband Brian of Townsend and Brenda Burgwinkle and her husband George of Holden; a daughter-in-law, Deborah Bourque of Leominster; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces. His first wife, Kathleen M. (Dabieu) Smith, a son, Stephen Smith and four sisters, Geraldine, Margaret, Shirley and Rubena, all predeceased him. He was born in Chateaugay, New York the son of Grant F. and Stella (Dumas) Smith and has lived in Holden for over 40 years.
Mr. Smith worked for Holden Trap Rock for 16 years retiring in 1993. Previously he worked at B & M Concrete in Rutland. He was a member of the Lodge 2270 Loyal Order of Moose in South Yarmouth and was a hard working man who was a gifted craftsman.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday, September 6th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral for Red will be held 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 7th, in the funeral home with burial following in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton.
