Rebecca L. (Engel) Brutto

January 8, 1958 — December 4, 2020

WEST BOYLSTON/WORCESTER – Rebecca L. (Engel) Brutto, 62, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 4, 2020. Born and raised in Athol, Becky was the daughter of David and Jean (Wood) Engel and lived many years in Worcester before moving to Hillside Village in 2018. She was a graduate of Athol High School.

Becky graduated from Worcester State University and later received a master’s in business administration from the University of Lowell (now UMASS Lowell). While working at State Mutual Life Assurance Co. and living in Shrewsbury, Becky met the love of her life, Richard Brutto. After a brief courtship, Becky and Rick were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Worcester in 1984 and moved to Worcester where they resided for the following 33 years.

Besides State Mutual, Becky worked as a systems analyst at Paul Revere Insurance Co. in Worcester before changing her career to accounting. Becky was working as a supervisor in accounts payable at the YMCA in Worcester until the time of her passing.

Becky always loved being outdoors and was happiest when she was biking on the Rail Trail at Cape Cod, climbing Tully Mountain, swimming at her beloved Sportsman’s Pond or visiting her sisters in Costa Rica and Florida. Becky enjoyed the simple things in life and always maintained a love for her home town of Athol.

She will always be remembered as a dedicated and loving mother, and treasured her time with her sons. She especially loved her new role as grandmother to Cam. Becky was a wonderful friend and was always interested in the lives of everyone in her life. She will be dearly missed by family and friends and will forever be in our hearts.

Becky is survived by her husband of 36 years, Richard Brutto; two sons, David C. Brutto and his wife, Julia of Littleton and Timothy R. Brutto of Somerville; her loving grandson Cameron and a granddaughter on-the-way; two sisters, Suzanne Baron and her husband, Bill of Middletown, DE, and Debbie Carter and her husband, Michael of Framingham.

A memorial service honoring Becky’s life will be celebrated privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics of Massachusetts, 512 Forest St., Marlborough, MA 01752 (specialolympicsma.org).
