STERLING – Raymond E. Rugg, Sr., 64, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Clinton Hospital. Born in Clinton and raised in Sterling, Ray was the son of the late William H. and Luella R. (Farnsworth) Rugg. He was a graduate of Wachusett Regional High School, class of 1972.
Ray worked for the Town of Sterling for 40 years as a equipment operator and as a firefighter for 20 plus years. He also worked for Village Transportation for several years. He was a longtime member of the Sterling Fair Committee and the Sons of the American Legion of the Hiram O. Taylor American legion Post #189. He was a big NASCAR fan and enjoyed attending antique tractor and engine shows throughout New England. First and foremost Ray was a family man. He looked forward in spending time with his family which included family outings, fishing or camping with his grand kids.
He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 44 years, Gloria J. (Morrow) Rugg; a son, Raymond E. Rugg, Jr. and his wife Carrie of Sterling; a daughter, Amy E. Legere and her companion David Rootovich of Nashua, NH; three brothers, Russell Rugg and his wife, Carole of Winchendon, Roger S. Rugg and his wife, Patricia of Arizona and Rodney Rugg of Leominster; two sisters, Wanda M. Sellars and her late husband, Arnold of Templeton and Juanita M. Day of S. Lancaster; his 6 grandchildren, Amber, Sarah, Stacey, Stephen, Rachel and Susan; many uncles and aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Ray’s family from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 29, at the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling followed by a funeral service honoring his life at 6:30 pm.
