RUTLAND – Raymond D. Cobb, 82, passed away peacefully under the loving care of his family and staff at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Worcester on Saturday, August 31, 2013, after a long illness. He was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Harlan W. and Edith (Lindstrom) Cobb, and lived 47 years in Rutland.
He graduated from Kent State University in 1955 with a degree in history and political science. After graduating from college, he enlisted and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957 in Germany.
Raymond was a customer service supervisor at Norton Company where he worked for 35 years retiring in 1990. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Rutland.
He leaves his wife of 58 years, Dorothy M. (Smith) Cobb; a son, Richard Cobb and his wife Donna of Holden; two daughters, Victoria Mailhot and her husband David of Coventry, CT and Diane McNutt and her husband Arthur of Rutland; a sister, Ruth Grindrod of Australia; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Raymond will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 4, at St. Patrick’s Church, 258 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland. Interment will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart/Stroke Association (for providing family support), P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220-3049. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
