HOLDEN - Raymond H. Bergman, Jr., 72, passed away unexpectedly at home on January 12, 2016. He was born in Worcester, the son of Raymond H. Sr., and Barbara L. (Berglund) Bergman.
Ray graduated from Commerce High School. An avid animal lover, Ray spent 35 years working for the City of Worcester as an animal control officer, and retired as the chief officer. In his retirement years, he worked as a guard at the Worcester County jail. As an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, Ray worked for the former Outdoorsman, previously known as Never Fails, an outdoor supplier in West Boylston. He was devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church in Worcester, where he had attended since childhood. He served as a member of church council, was always active in social events and serving church suppers and served as the property manager for several years. Even though he had no boys himself, Ray stayed active with Boy Scout Troop 33 at Zion Church, a troop he belonged to as a young boy, including serving as the scoutmaster for several years.
He leaves his two daughters, Deborah M. McMaster of Sagamore Beach and Kristin L. White of Worcester; his brother, Dana M. Bergman and his wife, Irene of Worcester; as well his 9 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, John L. Bergman.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Ray’s family from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, January 17, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial in All Faiths Cemetery, Worcester will be private.
