STERLING - Ray Greenwood, 67, died unexpectedly on Monday, May 14, 2018 at UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus, Worcester. Born in Worcester, Ray was the son of Rose (Guyer) and Ray C. Greenwood and graduated from Saint Stephen's High School with the class of 1969 and from Assumption College with the class of 1973.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 36 years, Kathleen M. (Buzzell) Greenwood; his son, James J. Greenwood and his wife, Michelle of Franklin; his daughter, Kaitlyn M. Greenwood of Sterling; his beloved grandchildren, Henry and Yvonne Greenwood; his sisters, Carolyn Fontaine of Plympton and Melanie Binnall of Worcester; two Brothers-in-law, John M. Buzzell and his wife, Angela and Dennis J. Buzzell and his wife, Peg; two nephews; and 5 grandnieces and grandnephews.
Ray devoted his life to his family, community and the advancement of Catholic education. He enjoyed a career spanning over 34 years at Holy Name Central Catholic High School in Worcester, both as a Teacher and Principal, retiring in 2011. Ray was a gifted athlete and played for the Saint Stephen's High School and Assumption College Baseball Teams. He also passed his love and knowledge of the game on to so many youths as a Coach for Millbury High School Baseball, Grafton Hill Legion Baseball and the Sterling Little League. Ray also coached golf at Holy Name and was an avid New England sports fan. Ray cherished his family and enjoyed spending time at the family vacation home in Wells, Maine.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 18th at Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 19th at St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge St., Sterling. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Clinton Rd. (Rte 62), Sterling. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sterling George Gibbs Little League, Attn. Elizabeth Keefe, 2 Pamela Lane, Sterling, MA 01564.
