STERLING –Barbara (Ramsey) Dudley, 97, Sterling’s Oldest Resident, passed away on Friday, November 12, 2010 in Beverly Hospital, Beverly after an illness.
Her husband of 37 years, Harvey A. Dudley died in 1977. She is survived by her son, Harry C. Dudley and his wife Gail of Manchester, and her much beloved granddaughter, Brooke Parsons and her husband Tom and their daughter, Barbara’s great-granddaughter and namesake, Barbara Grace Parsons, and a step great-granddaughter, Hayley Parsons all of Georgetown; and many nieces, nephews and loving friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Ramsey.
Barbara was born and raised in West Somerville, the daughter of Charles E. and Maydelle (Follansbee) Ramsey and had summered since birth in Sterling, moving there permanently in 1940 when she married Harvey.
Barbara graduated from Somerville High School and Lesley College. She taught part-time in the Sterling school system for many years. She was active in many civic groups including the Sterling Woman’s Club, the Sterling Historical Society and the Sterling Council on Aging. She was a member of the Oakdale United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 16th, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oakdale United Methodist Church, 15 North Main Street, West Boylston, MA 01583; or to the Sterling Historical Society, P.O. Box 356, Sterling MA 01564.
