WEST BOYLSTON - N. Ralph Testarmata, 87, of West Boylston, died peacefully in his home surrounded by his family, on Thursday, January 13, 2011.
He was born in Fitchburg, the eldest son of the late Carlo and Iginia (Pettinari) Testarmata. He graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1941 and attended Fitchburg Teachers College. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II serving with the 509th Army Air Force Base Unit in the European African Middle Eastern Theatre where he was awarded a bronze star. He was honorably discharged and returned to college, graduating as an Electrical Engineer from the University of Massachusetts in 1950. In 1952, he married Margaret Mary Driscoll at St. Bernard's Church. He was employed by IBM for 36 years and retired as a field manager in 1986.
He was a member of St. Christopher's Church and active in the leadership of Boy Scout Troop 151. During his retirement, he was a member of the Greendale Men's Club and YMCA, and a dedicated member of the Circo Italiano of West Boylston. He loved to garden, enjoyed photography and loved to swim. He was a well known figure at the YMCA where he and Peggy worked out daily for the past 25 years.
He leaves his beloved wife of 58 years, Margaret "Peggy" Testarmata, their six children, Margaret Testarmata of Nome, Alaska, Ann Marie Testarmata of Acton, Mary Ann Testarmata of Boulder, Colorado, John Testarmata and his wife Patricia of Boulder, Kevin Testarmata of West Boylston, and Brian Testarmata of Leominster and his fiancée Denise Guilmette and children Olivia and Andre; his grandchildren, Viktoria and Irina Testarmata; and his sister, Filomena Orsalock. He was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph and Romolo Testarmata, and his sister, Laura (Testarmata) Dinardo.
The funeral will be held on Monday, January 17th, from the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling, with an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Christopher's Church, 950 West Boylston Street (Rte. 12), Worcester. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Church Street, West Boylston. Calling hours will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, January 16th, in the funeral home.
