WORCESTER – Ralph L. Peterson, 87, of Fales Street, died Monday, November 16, 2009 in UMass Memorial Healthcare, Worcester, after an illness.
His wife of 60 years, Bernice E. (Publicover), died in 2007. He leaves two sons, James R. Peterson and his wife Catherine of Vernon, CT and Gerald "Jerry" R. Peterson and his fiancée Nancy L. Turner of Shrewsbury; six grandchildren, Lily Rose Krause, Christian Mekjian, Matthew, Jason, Jeffrey and Kayla Peterson; and his extended family, Jason, Keith, Bryce and Mykel. His daughter, Nancy E. Peterson-Mekjian died in 2000. He was born and raised in Worcester, the son of Louis and Ellen (Carlson) Peterson. He was a graduate of Commerce High School, Worcester Junior College and attended Clark University and Williams College.
Ralph was a World War II U.S. Navy Pilot serving in the Pacific Theatre. He worked for Norton Co. for 40 years, retiring as a Supervisor in Pricing Administration in1984. He was an active member of Greendale Peoples Church, and a member of the Joel H. Prouty Lodge of Masons in Auburn, the Greendale Retired Men's Club, the VFW Post 3657 in Worcester and the Worcester Surf Casters Club of Cape Cod.
Ralph treasured his family and the many wonderful times they shared together. He was an avid sportsman and especially enjoyed fishing.
A Celebration of Ralph's Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 21st, in the Chapel at Greendale People's Church, 25 Francis Street, Worcester. Burial will be private in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. Memorial donations in Ralph's memory may be made to the Greendale People's Church, 25 Francis Street, Worcester, MA 01606. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden is directing arrangements.
