Ralph D. Huggett

PAXTON - Ralph D. Huggett, 95, died on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Worcester on January 10, 1920. He was married to Helen M. Allen on October 9, 1944. They spent over 71 wonderful, caring years together, along with their son, Deane R. Huggett.
Ralph’s parents were Thomas D. and Ethel M. (O’Donnell) Huggett. Ralph graduated from Commerce High School in 1939, received an Associate in Arts Degree from Worcester Junior College where he was class president. In addition, he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Boston University and a Master's Degree in Education from Worcester State College.
Ralph was a Flight Officer and Bombardier in the United States Air Force during World War II. He was the first supervising principal in the Paxton Center School, first president of the Paxton Little League and was a teacher at the Downing Street School in Worcester until his retirement in 1981.
Although interested in most sports, he enjoyed golf in particular having had a hole in one and at one time shooting his age. He received an award from the Paxton Golf League as Dean of Paxton Golfers. A highlight of his golfing career was playing golf with his son, Deane at Pebble Beach, CA. He was a life time member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and also a lifetime member of the Greendale Men’s Club.
He is survived by his wife, Helen M. (Allen) Huggett; his son, Deane R. Huggett; his sister, Ethel A. Cole of Spring Hill Florida; two wonderful grandchildren, Dr. Heidi H. O’Connor and her husband, Marc of Waltham, and Andrew Huggett and his wife, Priya; and two great-grandchildren, Logan and Chloe Helen Huggett. He was predeceased by his sister, Bertha E. Seed.
Ralph's funeral services will be private at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden with burial at Mooreland Cemetery in Paxton.
