S Irene P. (Willard) Burke

WORCESTER – Irene P. (Willard) Burke, 90, of Worcester, died peacefully on Monday, November 29, 2010 in Knollwood Nursing Center.

Her husband of 57 years, Edward G. Burke, died in 1999. She leaves her son, Stephen E. Burke and his wife Rosanna of Holden; her two daughters, Cheryl Faulkner of Sutton and I. Patricia O’Malley of Cumberland, ME; three sisters, Marjorie Langdon of VT, Ruth Shamblin of Milford and Lorraine Willard of Framingham; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. She was born and raised in Framingham, a daughter of Arthur F. and Alice E. (Connors) Willard, and lived in Worcester most of her life. She was a 1937 graduate of Framingham High School.

Mrs. Burke was a sales clerk at Fanny Farmer Candy in Worcester. Previously, she was a sales associate for several years at Jordan Marsh Co. and a nurse’s aide at Hahnemann Hospital, both in Worcester. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, member and secretary of the 39ers Club at Coe’s Pond Village and years ago, a member of the Rice Square School PTA. She was a participant and founding member of the Framingham Heart Study.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 2nd, in St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, 162 Webster Street, Worcester. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saint John’s Fund, Saint John’s High School, 378 Main Street, Shrewsbury, MA 01545. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
